David A. Bortell, DVM, CVCH,CVFT
Welcome to our Clinic - we are so excited to share our newest Holistic treatment options.
I am a University of Illinois graduate who worked at Herrin Animal Hospital from 1997 until 2009. My wife and I purchased the clinic in December of 2009. We renamed it Bortell Animal Hospital to reflect the family culture of our clinic. When I am not taking care of your pets, I am spending time with my wife, Andrea, two daughters, our dog Niles, our cats Arwen, Spooky and Stripey. I enjoy spending time outdoors; especially fly fishing, canoeing, or hiking. Indoors I love tying flies and reading.
Daniele Milazzo, DVM

Kristin Heiden, DVM
Associate Veterinarian and Chiropractor
I am a graduate of the University of Missouri and was born and raised in the Effingham, IL area. After graduating with my DVM, I pursued advanced training in Chiropractic Care. I became certified in Animal Chiropractic Care in 2014. I am thrilled to bring another aspect of holistic medicine to Bortell Animal Hospital. In my down time, I enjoy training and showing dogs. I currently share my house with 3 dogs.
Andrea Bortell, MLS
Practice Manager, Owner
I have been Owner/Manager of Bortell Animal Hospital since December, 2009. When I am not taking care of the odds and ends of managing a busy animal hospital, I am homeschooling my two daughters. I entertain myself with Arwen, my seal point Siamese.
Trudy A. Shea, M. S. Ed/Biology, CCU/ICF
Manager/Human Resources, Education & Communications
I've been working with and around animals all of my life and have over 30 years of management and business owner experience. I've been a member of the Bortell Animal Hospital management team since January 2012 (although I've been a client since 1984). I've had experience with dog breeding and showing - both conformation and field trial, horses, cats, birds, fish, pocket pets, reptiles, chickens, and amphibians....hmmm, and....in my spare time, I enjoy playing the piano, painting, all things science and astronoy, my two dogs Chopin and Monet and my two cats, Violet and Sasha.

Hi, I'm Marlene!
I graduated from Parkland College with a degree in Veterinary Technology in 2012. I have a special interest in orthopedics, rehabilitation, pain management, and senior care. When I'm not working, I enjoy photography, traveling, hiking and spending time with my two dogs, Deke and Riley.

I'm an animal and fitness lover. I'm spontaneous and love meeting new people. Working as a receptionist and a veterinary assistant at Bortell Animal Hospital is one of the best things in my life. When I'm not working, I spend my time with my chocolate lab, Stella. We love having doggy play dates, being outdoors, running and hiking.
Hailing from Asheville, NC, my assisting background comes from Humane Alliance, a spay/neuter clinic. As a Fear Free Certified assistant, I am committed to making sure your pets have a safe trip to our clinic. I have a black cat named Eloise and I hope to adopt a dog very soon.
I'm a mother of two children and a wife to a very supportive husband. I have one cat who is my "watch-cat" because she doesn't like strangers. I have my associates degree from Heartland Community College and have experience with wildlife rehabilitation. I enjoy photography, painting and watching baseball. Some day I hope my family is able to move to the country.
I am a wife and mother of a little boy named Henry. I love spending as much time as I can with him. I also have two cats that Henry loves to "torment."
With my Fear Free training, I not only want your pets' trip to the clinic to be stress-free, but your's as well! I am committed to finding answers to your questions as quickly and accurately as possible. I will treat your animals as if they were my own.
I am a busy wife, and a mother of three little girls. I'm an avid Chicago Cubs fan!. When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, including my fur babies Wrigley, Maddie and Sweet Pea. I also have guinea pigs!
